In the History classroom, you, as the expert, are the most valuable resource. After all, you have a wealth of historical knowledge and a clear insight into what the GCSE examiners are looking for. However, you can only do so much to prepare your students for the final examination. You have taught a well planned course backed up with stimulating and engaging resources. You have run revision classes after school and probably in your holidays but ultimately your students have to take ownership of the learning process and do some revision at home. Thanks, however, to the humble podcast your students can have access to a virtual “you” out of hours.

Downloaded by students onto their own home computers or phones. We have at least one A. student whose History revision consisted in large part, of spending his daily bus journey to and from school, listening to the Mp3 files. Set factual recall questions for students to practice and then get them to self-mark against the Mp3 “answers” on your VLE. Add them to revision blogs via educational websites such as www.edmodo.com.
